Renowned Autism Expert Sarah Wayland, Ph.D., Author of Best-Selling Book “Is This Autism?”
Riverdale Park, MD—In a world where autistic individuals often go unrecognized or are misdiagnosed, autism specialist and thought leader Sarah Wayland, Ph.D. is helping to reshape the conversation. Her best-selling book, “Is This Autism?”, provides a groundbreaking, neurodiversity-affirmative perspective on identifying and understanding the many diverse ways autism can present, particularly in those who have learned to camouflage their traits.
In “Is This Autism?”, Wayland and her co-authors draw from a wealth of research, clinical expertise, and the personal narratives of over 100 autistic contributors to bring the diagnostic criteria to life. This accessible resource covers all the essentials—clarifying traditional markers of autism while also highlighting lesser-known manifestations such as relative vs. absolute thinking and the intricacies of sensory perception that often go overlooked. Beyond diagnostic criteria, the book shines a spotlight on autistic strengths, co-occurring conditions, and cutting-edge topics like “neuro-crash,” burnout, and differing expressions of empathy.
